Dr Bin Chen is the Technical Director at TUNRA Bulk Solids, the University of Newcastle’s specialist bulk materials handling consultancy and research group. He has 20 years of experience in bulk solids handling, flow properties, storage, transportation, and wear-related challenges across the mining, minerals processing, and heavy industries. Dr Chen leads and contributes to a wide range of industrial research and consulting projects involving material characterisation, flow testing, silo and stockpile design, transfer chute optimisation, wear and erosion assessment, and troubleshooting of bulk handling systems. His work supports clients throughout Australia and internationally, helping improve safety, reliability, and operational performance in bulk materials handling operations. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Newcastle and has authored numerous technical papers and industry publications. Dr Chen is an active contributor to the bulk solids handling community through conference presentations, industry training, and collaboration with mining and processing organisations.
