  • Mechanical Design Engineer at Syntechtron
  • Mechanical Design Engineer at Syntechtron

David is a mechanical engineer with over three decades of experience in design, diagnostics, and vibration engineering. He holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering (Honours) from the University of Sydney (1986), where he completed a design-focused thesis. He became a Member of Engineers Australia in 1990. He began his career at Telectronics as a biomedical design engineer, contributing to the development of implantable medical devices. In 2000, he joined Thales, working on seismic towed array product and process design. From 2007, he specialised in the design and servicing of water chillers for data centres, MRI systems, and other custom applications. Since 2013, David has been with Syntechtron, where he has developed deep expertise in vibration mechanics. Mentored by experienced designers from the NSW power generation and steelmaking industries, he has worked on critical infrastructure including ship and train loaders, stockpile reclaimers, gates, hoppers, vibrating feeders, screens, and conveyors. David has advanced the use of finite element analysis (FEA) simulations and digital diagnostic techniques to model and measure resonant behaviour in vibrating machinery. His work focuses on identifying both beneficial and harmful dynamic characteristics: Optimised vibrations in equipment such as feeders and screening systems to improve bulk material flow; Harmful vibrations leading to fatigue and catastrophic failure in bulk handling systems. He has also led initiatives in quality assurance, hazardous area certification, and CE marking for Syntechtron products.
